Patient testimonial: Mr. Peter Brown
My name is Peter Brown, and I want to express my profound gratitude to Mr Inderpaul Birdi for saving my life and giving me a second chance to truly live it.
I had been told by the NHS that I wasn’t a suitable candidate for the procedure (pericardiectomy) that I desperately needed and the outlook was grim. In December 2023 I was deemed palliative, with advanced constrictive pericarditis and only weeks to live.
At that point, my condition was dire. I could barely walk a few steps, relied on numerous medications, was frequently hospitalized, and my liver and kidney functions were rapidly declining. I thought I was at the end.
Then, Mr. Birdi gave me hope where there had been none. His compassionate and holistic approach looked beyond the immediate risks and saw me not as a risky, older patient (I was 76), but as a person – a person who had always led a healthy, active life and had the determination to fight. On 15 March 2024, he performed the operation that others had refused to attempt, giving me a fighting chance.
The months following the surgery were extremely tough, as I had lost so much condition and been so unwell beforehand, but I slowly began to recover. By six months, the difference was incredible. I was walking up to 3 miles, taking fewer medications, and starting to regain my independence.
Now, nine months later, my life is completely transformed. I’ve just returned from my first overseas holiday. I regularly walk 4-5 miles over hills, work on the farm every day, and have resumed my favorite activities, including field sports like shooting and salmon fishing. In December 2023, I said emotional goodbyes to each member of my family, thinking it was my last Christmas. In December 2024, I stood with them as the man I used to be – full of life, energy, and laughter.
There are no words to express the depth of my gratitude to Mr. Birdi and his team. Without them, I would not be here today, let alone thriving. His exceptional skill, compassion, and dedication didn’t just save my life – they gave it back to me in ways I never imagined possible.
Thank you, Mr. Birdi, for everything. You will always have my deepest appreciation.
Sincerely,
Peter Brown
